I love Sloppy Joes for a quick meal, lunches and dinner. (I made some this morning, and had one for breakfast. LOL)
I have tried them in crock pots, and different recipes I've run across but this is my all time favorite way to make them and everyone seems to love it as much as me. I think the true secret to the taste in this is the addition of a little cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg, and using a good Balsamic vinegar instead of regular vinegar. It reallys gives a good kick and flavor burst.
It freezes well too.
Put the ground beef, onions, garlic, and celery into a pan on medium high. Mix it up well.
Brown the mixture up, turn heat down if necessary to keep too much sticking to your pan. I don't cover mine, it creates too much liquid and boils rather than brown the meat.
Drain the beef mixture. While that's draining, add the rest of the ingredients to the pan and stir it up well, scraping the bottom to get those little flavor bits left behind.
Add the beef to it and mix it thoroughly. Simmer very low for about ten minutes to get all those flavors going.
>>>And serve it up. I put a side of sliced tomatoe and lettuce for people who like that with their Joes, and of course some potatoe chips. ;-)
IF you have leftovers, freeze them in individual serving containers and be sure to label them with contents and date. If there is too much room in the container, I add a piece of plastic wrap and push it down on the food before placing the lid on. This adds a little more protection from freezer burn.
